Exam Scope and Candidate Numbers
The upcoming examinations will see 59,754 candidates sit for the Certificate II exams, while an additional 1,752 candidates will undertake other traditional TVET examinations. This marks a significant increase, with the Certificate II candidature alone rising by 8.06 per cent compared to the 55,295 candidates from the previous year.
These examinations are scheduled to commence on May 18, 2026, and conclude on June 12, 2026. A total of 169 examination centres have been established nationwide, serving 278 public and private pre-tertiary TVET institutions.
Gender and Inclusivity in TVET
Analysis of the candidate data reveals a notable gender distribution. Out of the 61,506 students, 45,357 are male, representing 73.7 per cent. The remaining 16,149 candidates are female, accounting for 26.3 per cent of the total.
The CTVET also highlighted its commitment to inclusivity, with 170 persons with disabilities registered to take the exams. This group comprises 92 males and 78 females, demonstrating efforts to ensure broader access to TVET qualifications.
Growing Confidence in Skills Pathways
Director-General Zakaria Sulemana of the CTVET described the increased student numbers as a clear indicator of the expanding reach of TVET education in Ghana. He emphasized that these figures reflect a growing public trust in skills development as a legitimate and promising career path.
