President John Mahama has declared a firm stance against public officials implicated in financial irregularities, announcing that offenders will face a stark choice: refund misappropriated funds or face imprisonment. The President made these remarks during a diaspora town hall meeting in the United Kingdom on Sunday, May 31, highlighting the persistent financial losses documented in the Auditor-General’s reports as a severe drain on the national economy.
Addressing Systemic Weaknesses in Financial Management
President Mahama expressed deep concern over the recurring findings in annual audit reports, describing them as indicative of significant weaknesses in public financial management and accountability systems. He emphasized that these issues must be tackled decisively to protect national resources.
