Subin-Akwaboso Bank CEO Sounds Alarm on Money Laundering Threat to Ghana's Economy

Mr. Francis Azure, Chief Executive Officer of Subin-Akwaboso Community Bank PLC, urged intensified efforts to combat money laundering in Ghana’s financial sector during the bank’s 3rd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on Saturday, May 30, 2026, warning of its severe threat to economic stability and development.

Combating Financial Crime

Speaking at the bank’s headquarters, Mr. Azure underscored Subin-Akwaboso Community Bank’s unwavering commitment to ethical banking and strict regulatory adherence. He explicitly stated the bank’s zero-tolerance policy for illicit financial activities.

The CEO called upon the Bank of Ghana and other regulatory bodies to bolster their enforcement of anti-money laundering measures. He highlighted that money laundering erodes investor confidence, hampers economic planning, and tarnishes Ghana’s international financial standing.

This illicit practice fuels tax evasion, creates unfair competition for legitimate businesses, promotes corruption, and distorts market stability and exchange rates, according to Mr. Azure.
