Ghana Sports Fund Seeks Investment to Revolutionize Sports Infrastructure and Talent Development

Ghana’s Sports Fund Administrator, Dr. David K. Wuaku, is actively seeking investment from international partners, development organizations, and the Ghanaian diaspora to bolster the nation’s sports sector. Speaking at a recent Investment Forum in London, Dr. Wuaku highlighted the sector’s potential for economic growth, job creation, and youth empowerment, emphasizing the urgent need for modern facilities and sustainable financing to nurture world-class athletes.

Context: A Foundation for Growth

The Ghana Sports Fund, established under the Ghana Sports Fund Act, 2025 (Act 1159), operates with a clear mandate: to provide sustainable financing and mobilize investment for sports development across Ghana. This initiative aims to move beyond sporadic successes to build a robust and self-sustaining sports economy.

Ghana has a rich history of producing exceptional athletes who have achieved global recognition. However, the lack of adequate infrastructure, structured development programs, and consistent funding has often limited the full realization of this potential. The Fund’s creation signifies a strategic governmental effort to address these challenges systematically.

Infrastructure Development Takes Center Stage

A primary focus for the Ghana Sports Fund is the development of modern sports infrastructure. Dr. Wuaku announced plans, spearheaded by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, to construct eight multipurpose stadia nationwide.

These proposed venues are designed to meet FIFA standards for pitches and will incorporate flexible arenas capable of hosting diverse events beyond sports, including conferences, concerts, and community gatherings. Each stadium is projected to have a minimum seating capacity of 5,000 spectators and will include integrated conference, hospitality, and commercial spaces.
