Africa Warns Tech Giants Against 'Digital Colonisation' as Data Exploitation Surges

Accra, Ghana – Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stark warning to global technology corporations, denouncing the unchecked extraction of African digital resources as a new form of colonisation. Speaking at the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family Sovereignty and Values, Minister George asserted that the continent must assert ownership and regulatory control over its sovereign data before it is irrevocably exploited by external corporate interests.

Historical Parallels and Modern Exploitation

The minister drew explicit parallels between the historical subjugation of Africa through the transatlantic slave trade and territorial imperialism, and the current digital exploitation by multinational tech firms. He argued that the strategies employed by these companies mirror those used centuries ago to divide and conquer the continent.
