The prestigious event recognized top candidates across all twelve papers of the CITG qualification based on the February 2026 examinations.
Context: The CITG Qualification and Awards
The Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG) annually holds a graduation ceremony to celebrate its newly qualified members. This event serves as a platform to award excellence in various subjects within the taxation qualification. The examinations, held in February 2026, culminated in this ceremony where national awards were conferred.
The awards presented included individual paper prizes for the top-performing candidate in each of the twelve examination papers. The pinnacle of these accolades is the Overall Best Graduating Student award, recognizing the candidate with the most outstanding performance across the entire qualification.
Abigail Cudjoe Dominates the Honours List
Abigail Cudjoe emerged as the standout achiever, securing the coveted Overall Best Graduating Student award, presented by CITG President Ernestina Christina Appiah. Her exceptional performance extended to specific papers, where she also claimed top honours.
Cudjoe was the leading candidate in ‘Advanced Taxation and Practice’. Furthermore, she shared the top spot with Abraham Gozah in the ‘Tax Administration & Ethics’ paper, demonstrating a remarkable depth of knowledge.
MSL Business School Students Shine
A significant portion of the top awards were claimed by students from MSL Business School. Abigail Cudjoe, Eric Ofosu, Richard Sasu, and Abraham Gozah together accounted for six of the national awards.
Eric Ofosu won the ‘Strategic Tax Planning’ paper, while Richard Sasu was recognized for ‘International Taxation’. Abraham Gozah shared the ‘Tax Administration & Ethics’ award with Cudjoe. Notably, all awards for the three final-level papers—Strategic Tax Planning, Advanced Taxation and Practice, and Tax Administration & Ethics—were secured by these four MSL Business School students.
A Pattern of Excellence
Cudjoe’s academic success is not a singular event. Her achievements echo her past triumphs; she was also the National Overall Best Graduating Chartered Accountant at the March 2024 Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) examinations.
This marks the second time Cudjoe has secured three national awards in a single examination sitting, underscoring her consistent dedication and high level of academic achievement in professional accounting and taxation.
Broader Recognition Beyond Top Awards
While the paper prizes and the overall best student award garnered significant attention, the graduation ceremony celebrated a much larger cohort of professionals who successfully completed the CITG qualification. The event honoured graduates from across the country, acknowledging the collective effort and achievement of all who passed the rigorous examinations.
Michael Siaw Larbi, Founder of MSL Business School, expressed pride in his students’ accomplishments. He emphasized that the success belongs primarily to the students and their hard work, with the institute grateful for the recognition provided by CITG.
Implications and Future Outlook
Abigail Cudjoe’s multiple national awards at the CITG graduation highlight the increasing demand for specialized tax professionals in Ghana. Her success, alongside that of other high-achievers from MSL Business School, points to the effectiveness of targeted professional development programs in preparing candidates for complex tax examinations.
The strong performance in the final-level papers by MSL students suggests a potential trend in professional education, where focused institutions are equipping graduates with advanced skills. This could influence how other aspiring tax professionals approach their studies and which institutions they choose for preparation.
Looking ahead, the continued emphasis on professional qualifications like CITG is crucial for strengthening Ghana’s tax administration and revenue generation capabilities. The performance of graduates like Cudjoe sets a high benchmark, encouraging future candidates to strive for excellence and contributing to a more skilled and knowledgeable tax workforce in the nation.
