Accra, Ghana – June 7, 2026 – Ghanaian business magnates, including Ibrahim Mahama, and major telecommunication companies, Telecel and AirtelTigo, are partnering with the government to facilitate the economic reintegration of citizens evacuated from South Africa due to escalating anti-immigrant violence. The initiative was announced Saturday night by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as the second batch of 345 evacuees arrived at Accra International Airport.
The announcement comes as many returnees arrived visibly distressed, having lost their businesses, savings, and years of hard work to xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Minister Ablakwa stated that Corporate Ghana is stepping up to provide a comprehensive livelihood restoration program, refusing to be a passive bystander during this national crisis.
Private Sector Mobilization
According to Minister Ablakwa, influential business leaders and telecom executives have proactively engaged with the government to create a robust economic support system for the displaced Ghanaians. This corporate intervention aims to deploy significant capital, digital resources, employment opportunities, and business integration packages.
