Accra, Ghana – June 7, 2026 – The government of Ghana is initiating comprehensive legal processes to secure full financial compensation for its citizens whose businesses and life savings were destroyed during a recent surge of anti-immigrant violence in South Africa. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced these measures on Saturday night, June 6, 2026, upon welcoming the second group of 345 Ghanaian evacuees at Accra International Airport.
Government’s Commitment to Reclaiming Losses
Minister Ablakwa addressed the returning Ghanaians, many of whom expressed deep distress over abandoning their hard-earned investments. He assured them that the state would actively pursue compensation for assets lost to what he described as “lawless vigilante groups.” The minister emphasized that the government’s intervention goes beyond mere repatriation, pledging the full legal apparatus to document and fight for every lost asset.
