Ghana Seeks Belarusian Expertise to Bolster Agricultural Sector and Food Security

President John Mahama concluded his second day of a state visit to Belarus by touring industrial and agricultural facilities in the city of Brest on [Insert Date of Visit], aiming to secure partnerships that could transform Ghana’s agricultural sector and enhance national food security.

Exploring Agro-Processing Prowess

During his visit, President Mahama was welcomed by Piotr Alexsandrovich Parkhomchik, the Governor of Brest, and other senior Belarusian Foreign Ministry officials. The delegation toured one of Belarus’ prominent agro-processing plants, renowned for its advanced dairy production technologies.

The facility specializes in processing a wide range of dairy products, including baby food, milk, cheese, and milk powder. These products cater to both domestic consumption and are exported to international markets, showcasing a sophisticated and efficient supply chain.

Ghana’s Ambition for Commercial Agriculture

President Mahama, accompanied by his Advisor and Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Moscow, Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah, observed the high-tech production processes firsthand. This observation reinforced Ghana’s commitment to adopting modern processing techniques.

The President articulated Ghana’s strategic goal to transition from traditional smallholder farming towards large-scale commercial agriculture. This shift is seen as crucial for achieving greater food self-sufficiency.
