David Vondee, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa, has firmly defended recent arrests and remands of political activists, asserting that law enforcement must act against misconduct irrespective of political affiliation. Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on May 21, Vondee argued that neither the courts nor the police have violated the Constitution through these actions.
Upholding Lawful Procedures
Vondee challenged critics by questioning the basis for deeming the remands unconstitutional. He pointed out that the procedures currently under scrutiny are not novel and have been employed under previous governments.
He contended that political figures should refrain from mischaracterizing legitimate arrests as persecution, especially when their party is in opposition. This narrative, he suggested, can mislead the public and undermine the justice system.
Condemnation of Threats and Insults
The MP strongly condemned threats directed at police officers and attacks on the judiciary. He stated that some political activists have crossed ethical and legal boundaries with their inflammatory remarks and actions.
