Minority Demands Bank of Ghana Accounts Presentation, Citing Legal Timelines

The Minority caucus in Parliament has issued a strong demand for the immediate presentation of the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) audited financial statements to the House, warning that delays could constitute a breach of the Bank of Ghana Act. The issue, raised on the floor of Parliament on Friday, escalates ongoing political tensions surrounding the central bank’s financial performance.

Statutory Obligation and Parliamentary Scrutiny

The controversy centers on the delayed submission of the BoG’s audited accounts for the 2025 financial year. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, highlighted the legal implications during discussions on parliamentary business. He pointed to Section 58 of the Bank of Ghana Act, Act 612, which mandates the bank to complete its audited annual accounts within three months of the financial year’s end.

This audited report must then be submitted to the Finance Minister, who is responsible for its gazetting, accompanied by comments, and subsequent laying before Parliament. As Parliament entered its final week of May, Oppong Nkrumah noted that the statutory timelines had already expired, with no indication of the accounts being scheduled for presentation.
