President Mahama Inaugurates Bole College of Education, Unveils Sweeping Development Agenda for Savannah Region

President John Mahama has officially broken ground for the construction of the Bole College of Education in Ghana’s Savannah Region. The ceremony, held recently, marks a significant step towards fulfilling a long-standing vision for educational advancement in the area, aiming to bridge the development gap between northern Ghana and other parts of the country.

Fulfilling a Long-Held Dream

President Mahama described the project as a personal dream come true, tracing its origins to his tenure as the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi. The establishment of this tertiary institution is intended to dramatically transform educational opportunities for the region’s youth.

For years, the absence of a local college forced secondary school graduates to seek higher education elsewhere in Ghana. This often presented significant financial and logistical challenges for students from the Savannah Region.

Comprehensive Development Projects for Savannah Region

Beyond the college, President Mahama announced an ambitious slate of educational and infrastructural projects. These include a new STEM secondary school in Tinga and a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center in Kulmasa.

Furthermore, plans are underway for a proposed University of Science and Technology specifically for the Savannah Region. The President indicated he would inspect a potential site for this university the following day.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance livelihoods and combat endemic poverty in northern Ghana through education and improved infrastructure.
