Accra Metropolitan Assembly Initiates Major Renovation of Eight Basic Schools

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has officially handed over eight basic school facilities within the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools to contractors for extensive renovation works. This handover, which took place recently, aims to significantly improve teaching and learning conditions in these institutions.

Context: Deteriorating Infrastructure

The renovation projects are a direct response to years of neglect and deteriorating infrastructure within the Aayalolo Cluster. Assembly Members have repeatedly highlighted the poor state of these facilities, appealing for government intervention. The AMA’s planned infrastructure improvement programme identified these schools as a priority due to their critical need for upgrades.

Major Renovation Underway

The eight beneficiary schools include Central Mosque 1 & 2 Primary School, Akoto Lante Basic School, Amamomo 3 Ashia Mills Junior High School, Accra Presby Primary School, Aayalolo 1 & 2 Kindergarten and Primary School, Amamomo 1 & 2 Junior High School, Aayalolo 1 & 2 Junior High School, and Aayalolo 3 Kindergarten and Primary School. This marks one of the largest renovation efforts undertaken in the cluster in recent memory.

Speaking at the site handover ceremony, the Presiding Member of the AMA, Musah Ziyad, emphasized the significance of this intervention. He noted that the facilities had seen minimal improvements over the years, leading to a less than ideal environment for education.

Mr. Ziyad commended the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the Assembly’s leadership for prioritizing these much-needed renovations. He expressed confidence that the upgrades would enhance the learning environment and contribute positively to improved educational outcomes for the pupils.

Contractor Assurances

A representative of the contracting firms assured the Assembly and school authorities of their commitment to delivering high-quality work within the agreed timelines. The contractors pledged to use only durable and superior materials to ensure the longevity of the renovated facilities.
