The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has initiated the recruitment of 400 revenue collectors to enhance its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and align with the government’s 24-hour economy agenda. Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, announced the move, which aims to improve revenue mobilization and create local employment opportunities.
Boosting Revenue and Employment
The recruitment drive is a strategic effort by the AMA to strengthen its financial base. Successful applicants will be deployed across various sub-metropolitan areas, markets, business districts, and transport terminals within the AMA’s jurisdiction.
Mayor Allotey emphasized that this initiative is designed to significantly improve the Assembly’s revenue collection system. Key objectives include plugging existing leakages and fostering greater accountability in the process.
“This forms part of our ongoing efforts to improve internally generated funds, block revenue leakages and ensure a more transparent, accountable and efficient revenue collection system,” stated Mayor Allotey.

The AMA highlighted the crucial link between robust revenue mobilization and the delivery of essential public services. Stronger IGF are vital for funding critical infrastructure and services that benefit the capital’s residents.

“A more efficient revenue collection system will help provide the resources required to support businesses, improve urban services and create the enabling environment for economic activity to thrive beyond regular working hours,” Mayor Allotey explained.
Training and Public Advisory
To ensure professionalism and efficiency, all successful revenue collectors will undergo comprehensive training. This training will cover essential areas such as revenue collection procedures, customer relations, accountability protocols, reporting systems, digital payment processes, and ethical conduct.
The AMA also issued a warning to the public regarding unauthorized individuals soliciting funds. Residents are urged to report any person attempting to collect money in the name of the Assembly without proper authorization.
