Couple Found Murdered in Saki Apartment; Police Identify Person of Interest

The Tema Regional Police Command is investigating the alleged murder of Ebenezer Kwabena Obiri, 47, and his wife, Mary Anim, 35, who were found dead in their Saki apartment on Friday, May 1, 2026. A suspected acquaintance of the male victim, identified as Prince, is considered a person of interest in the case, with police suspecting a financial motive.

Discovery of the Victims

The gruesome discovery was made after co-tenants reported the couple missing. They had last been seen on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at their residence at Immigration House in the Kpone Electoral Area. Mr. Isaac Newton, Assembly Member for the Nmlitsakpo Electoral Area, confirmed he received a distress call regarding the incident on May 1.

Upon entering the apartment, the bodies of Mr. Obiri and Ms. Anim were found in separate locations. Both victims sustained severe cutlass wounds, and the scene indicated a clear struggle had taken place.

Child Survivor

Tragically, the couple’s three-year-old child was found alive but traumatised at the scene. Reports indicate the assailant spared the young child, who is now under care.

Financial Motive Suspected

A relative of the deceased, Mr. Isaac Darko, revealed that Mr. Obiri had a significant sum of money, GH¢100,000.00, stored in the apartment for a business transaction. This information emerged during subsequent checks with one Iddrisu, a business partner of Mr. Obiri.

Mr. Darko also recounted a phone call from April 29, where Mr. Obiri handed his phone to a man named Prince, described as a friend and a soldier. Prince informed Mr. Darko that he was being transferred to Tamale and planned to leave on Friday. However, it was later discovered that Prince had been dismissed from the military.

Prince is currently unreachable, and Mr. Darko expressed strong suspicion that he may be responsible for the murders, potentially motivated by the GH¢100,000.00. The child survivor reportedly described the perpetrator in a manner consistent with Prince’s appearance.

Community Devastation and Appeal

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community. “We are very devastated by this tragedy,” Mr. Darko stated. “Kobby was such a great human being and we can’t understand why anyone would want to harm him, let alone kill him.”

The bereaved family has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator and ensure justice for the victims.

Ongoing Investigation

The Tema Regional Police Command is actively pursuing leads in their investigation. The bodies of Mr. Obiri and Ms. Anim have been deposited at the morgue of the Police Hospital for autopsy.

Future Outlook

The focus of the ongoing police investigation will be on locating and apprehending Prince, the person of interest, and recovering the stolen money. The community will be watching closely for developments as the police work to bring closure to this tragic event and ensure the safety of its residents. The traumatised child’s testimony will be crucial evidence as the case progresses.
