Accra, Ghana – The Ejisu Constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have vehemently denied allegations that they are actively working to undermine the second term aspirations of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng. Constituency Chairman Kofi Ampofo stated that no such agenda exists within the party leadership, and they will not obstruct any qualified member from contesting during the upcoming parliamentary primaries. This clarification comes amid reports suggesting internal friction is linked to the MP’s past support for a presidential aspirant.
Context of Internal Party Dynamics
Recent weeks have seen growing speculation within the Ejisu NPP, fueled by reports of discord between the constituency executives and MP Kwabena Boateng. These rumors suggested that some party officials were actively working against the MP due to his endorsement of Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s recent presidential primaries. Such internal divisions can significantly impact party cohesion and electoral prospects.
Disagreements Over Polling Station Elections
Chairman Ampofo clarified that the perceived misunderstandings stem from a disagreement over the method of conducting polling station executive elections in Ejisu. The MP reportedly advocated for open voting and head-counting, while the constituency executives insisted on secret balloting. The executives believe that secret balloting is crucial to prevent divisions within the party, especially with the 2028 general elections on the horizon.
