Fatal Road Crash Claims Three Lives Near Kpeve

Three people died and 17 others were injured following a severe road accident on Friday, May 22, near Woadze, on the Kpeve–Asikuma road in the Volta Region. The crash involved a commercial Mercedes-Benz vehicle traveling from Abotuase to Ningo, carrying 20 passengers.

The Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call at approximately 9:58 am and dispatched personnel from the Peki Fire Station. Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle severely damaged, with several passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

In a statement, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service detailed the rescue efforts. The vehicle was carrying 11 males, five females, and four children.

Firefighters worked diligently to extricate victims from the mangled vehicle. They successfully rescued 13 adults and four children. Despite these efforts, three adults—two men and one woman—succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Collaborative Rescue and Investigation

The incident saw a coordinated response from multiple agencies. Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, specifically the Kpando Divisional Command, and officers from the Ghana Ambulance Service, stationed at Afadjato and Juapong, provided crucial assistance at the crash site.
