Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially confirmed that all qualified candidates who participated in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will secure placement in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical Schools across the nation. This assurance was communicated in a statement released on Thursday, May 14, detailing comprehensive preparations for the upcoming academic year, which commences September 18, 2026.
GES management extended congratulations to all junior high school graduates for successfully completing their examinations. The service reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every eligible student gains access to secondary education. This proactive stance addresses concerns that had begun to surface regarding potential placement challenges.
Comprehensive Preparations Underway
The statement emphasized that all necessary arrangements for a seamless admission process have been finalized nationwide. GES has asserted that the infrastructure and facilities available are sufficient to accommodate the expected influx of new students.
This announcement directly counters recent reports circulating in some media outlets, which suggested that approximately 72,000 students might not receive placement this year. GES has officially debunked these claims, labeling them as speculative and inaccurate, and urging the public to disregard such information as it does not represent the reality of the placement situation.
Phasing Out Double-Track System and Access
Furthermore, GES clarified that the ongoing efforts to gradually phase out the double-track system will not compromise or restrict access to senior high and technical education. The service explained that this transition is strategically designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning experiences.
The primary objective of phasing out the double-track system, according to GES, is to improve educational outcomes while simultaneously maintaining and ensuring full access for all qualified students. This approach signifies a commitment to both quality and inclusivity in secondary education.
Commitment to Equitable Education
The Ghana Education Service reaffirmed its dedication to providing equitable, inclusive, and quality education for every Ghanaian child. The service also extended a call to action for all stakeholders, urging them to rally behind and support this national educational objective.
