Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) formalized a crucial partnership on May 5, 2026, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja. This agreement aims to bolster timely intelligence sharing and enhance joint drug enforcement efforts between the two West African nations, recognizing the transnational nature of the evolving drug trade.
Strengthening Regional Cooperation Against Evolving Threats
The signing ceremony, witnessed by Dr. Gladys Mansa Yawa Feddy Akyea, Deputy Head of Mission at the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, underscored the deep-seated relationship between Ghana and Nigeria. Brig. Gen. Maxwell Obuba Mantey, NACOC Director-General, highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role in the sub-region and emphasized that the drug challenge has grown too complex for any single nation to confront alone.
