Ghana Assures Support for Citizens Evacuated Amidst South African Xenophobia

Accra, Ghana – The Ghanaian government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has pledged unwavering protection and comprehensive support for its citizens evacuated from South Africa due to escalating xenophobic attacks. The assurance comes as approximately 300 Ghanaians, the first batch of evacuees, arrived in Ghana, marking a significant government response to the crisis. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s administration’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity and welfare of all Ghanaians abroad, emphasizing that the government would spare no effort in ensuring their safety and facilitating their return home.

Comprehensive Support Package Unveiled

Upon arrival, the evacuees were met with a robust support system designed to ease their reintegration into Ghanaian society. Minister Ablakwa detailed a comprehensive package that includes immediate medical and psychosocial care. Medical personnel and mental health professionals were present at the welcome ceremony to provide crucial counseling and support to those affected by the traumatic experiences in South Africa.
