Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) recently culminated its month-long 40th anniversary celebrations with a grand dinner at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on Saturday, May 16. The event brought together key industry stakeholders, government officials, development partners, and current and former GCAA staff to commemorate four decades of service and to discuss the future of aviation in Ghana.
A Journey of Transformation and Resilience
The anniversary celebration highlighted the significant evolution of Ghana’s aviation sector, contrasting its challenging beginnings with its current standing. Retired officers of the GCAA delivered a solidarity message, recalling the difficult conditions of the 1980s. They vividly described a time when the Accra Airport lacked essential runway lights, forcing the use of improvised solutions, and when obsolete facilities frequently disrupted air traffic control operations.
