Ghana Education Service Appeals for Public Vigilance Against Exam Malpractice

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is actively enlisting public support to combat examination malpractice by urging citizens to report suspicious activities through dedicated hotlines. This appeal comes amidst growing concerns over persistent cases of cheating during national assessments, despite existing preventative measures.

GES Deputy Director-General, Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, highlighted the effectiveness of the provided hotlines – 020-1360-789 (calls and SMS) and 020-1360-786 (WhatsApp) – in previous efforts against malpractice during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). She emphasized the necessity of continued public cooperation to uphold the integrity of examinations.

Combating a Persistent Problem

Professor Dzisi made these remarks during a tour of senior high schools in Accra, including Accra Girls Senior High School and Accra High School, to observe the commencement of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates. She was accompanied by the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah, and the Director of Finance of the GES, Dr. Musah Imoro.

Despite extensive awareness campaigns, a number of teachers and invigilators continue to engage in malpractice. Professor Dzisi issued a stern warning that such individuals will be apprehended and face severe consequences, including the termination of their careers with the GES. She pointed to existing cases where teachers have been convicted for examination malpractice.
