Ghanaian government officials announced on Wednesday, May 6, plans to significantly boost the nation’s renewable energy portfolio by integrating an additional 200 megawatts (MW) of solar power into the national electricity grid. This initiative aims to diversify the country’s energy sources and enhance its commitment to sustainability.
The Minister of State in charge of Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, revealed the development during the Government Accountability Series. He confirmed that Cabinet has officially approved the expansion of solar energy into the national grid, tasking the Energy Ministry with leading the implementation.
Renewable Energy Agenda Underway
Preparations for this substantial solar power addition are already in motion. Mr. Issifu indicated that initial steps, including processes to attract relevant stakeholders, have commenced.
