The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is urging the Ghanaian government to bolster incentives for renewable energy projects, advocating for measures that would support industrial expansion and ensure a sustainable power supply. This call was made during a sustainable energy expo in Accra, where AGI’s President, Dr. Kofi Nsiah-Poku, highlighted the critical link between reliable energy and the nation’s industrial ambitions.
Context: The Need for Sustainable Power
A consistent and reliable electricity supply is fundamental for sustaining Ghana’s industrial growth and achieving the government’s ambitious 24-hour economy agenda. The current power landscape, however, faces challenges with intermittent supply, impacting operational efficiency and economic productivity for businesses.
Dr. Nsiah-Poku emphasized that the future of Ghanaian industry hinges on embracing cleaner, smarter, and more efficient energy solutions. To this end, the AGI has established an Energy Service Centre to provide businesses with essential technical guidance and energy efficiency solutions.
AGI’s Demands for Renewable Energy Investment
The AGI’s plea to the government includes the expansion of crucial incentives. They are calling for measures such as tax reliefs specifically for renewable energy technologies, the facilitation of affordable green financing options, and the streamlining of regulatory processes. These actions are deemed necessary to significantly encourage greater investment within the renewable energy sector.
