Ghana Launches Landmark 24/7 Digital Mental Health Platform Amidst Growing Need

Accra, Ghana – May 2024 – The Jubilare Group, in partnership with the Mental Health Authority of Ghana and over a dozen other organizations, has officially launched the Mental Health Campaign 2026. This ambitious initiative introduces plans for Ghana’s first round-the-clock remote mental healthcare platform, aiming to provide crucial support services to more than 1,000 mothers, students, and professionals across the nation.

Expanding Access to Mental Healthcare

The campaign, unveiled at a ceremony in Accra, is designed to significantly increase access to mental health services. It will offer comprehensive support including screening, counselling, and ongoing care. A primary goal is to dismantle the pervasive stigma surrounding mental illness, encouraging more individuals to seek help.

Deborah Asmah, co-founder of Npontu Technologies and President of Jubilare Group, shared a deeply personal account of her struggle with postnatal depression. She revealed that her own diagnosis came only after extensive online research during a challenging period, highlighting a critical gap in accessible support.

Ms. Asmah’s experience mirrors a broader national crisis. Data presented at the launch indicated that nearly half of Ghanaian mothers experience perinatal depression. Furthermore, between 13 and 17 percent report suicidal thoughts, and one in five new mothers suffers from postnatal depression. University students are also heavily affected, with one in three experiencing anxiety or depression.
