Ghana Revenue Authority Collects GH¢1 Billion in April, Cites AI and Digital Reforms

Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced a significant collection of approximately GH¢1 billion in revenue for April 2026. Commissioner-General Anthony Kofi Sarpong attributed this achievement to ongoing improvements in tax administration efficiency, enhanced compliance systems, and strategic digital reforms designed to bolster Ghana’s financial stability.

Boosting Domestic Revenue Mobilisation

Speaking at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit, Mr. Sarpong emphasized that domestic revenue mobilisation is crucial for Ghana’s development agenda. This is particularly vital as the nation aims to deepen economic transformation and reduce its dependence on external financial assistance.

He revealed that the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, specifically the Republican AI system deployed at the ports, has been instrumental in improving compliance and preventing revenue leakages. This technological intervention is seen as a key enabler for strengthening Ghana’s fiscal foundation.

Technology as a Catalyst for Reform

Mr. Sarpong highlighted that education and national development are dependent on essential enablers, including infrastructure, energy, a skilled workforce, and efficient public services. Sustained revenue flows are indispensable for supporting these national priorities.

The GH¢1 billion collection in April serves as a testament to the potential of a modernised and efficient tax system. However, Mr. Sarpong cautioned that broader structural reforms are still necessary to ensure these gains are sustained and expanded.
