Ghanaian Living Conditions Lag Behind Macroeconomic Gains, Report Reveals

A new report from policy think tank Africa Policy Lens (APL) reveals a significant disconnect between Ghana’s recent macroeconomic progress and the everyday living conditions of its citizens. The maiden Ghana Wellbeing Tracker report, based on a nationwide survey, indicates that despite headline economic stabilization, many households continue to struggle with a high cost of living, suggesting the benefits of economic recovery are not yet widely felt.

Macroeconomic Stability vs. Lived Reality

The APL report highlights that while Ghana’s economy has moved past a phase of acute distress, the recovery process is uneven. The Ghana Wellbeing Index (GWI) scored 58.5, signifying a stable yet fragile economic context. This means that while overall economic indicators may show improvement, the impact on individual households varies considerably.
