Accra, Ghana – President John Dramani Mahama has declared that public officials responsible for granting building permits within the Weija Dam spillway will face dismissal from their positions. This stern warning comes in response to escalating concerns over unauthorized developments in flood-prone areas, particularly following recent spillage events that displaced residents and destroyed property in downstream communities like Tetegu.
Investigation and Sanctions Announced
During an engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora in London on Sunday, May 31, President Mahama announced he had directed the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, to launch an immediate investigation into the individuals who authorized these permits.
