Accra, Ghana – With just over two months remaining until the Commonwealth Games, Ghana’s participation hangs precariously in the balance as the government has yet to release approved funds to the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). The GOC, which secured parliamentary approval for GH₵12 million last year for the Games, faces a critical funding shortfall, threatening to hamper athlete preparations and potentially reduce the nation’s contingent.
Funding Delays Jeopardize Preparations
Richard Akpokavie, President of the GOC, voiced his concerns at the committee’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday. He highlighted that despite Parliament’s approval of the budget, no funds have been disbursed to the GOC.
