Ghana's FDA Cracks Down on Single Cigarette Stick Sales, Citing Health Warning Laws

The Upper East Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana has declared the sale of individual cigarette sticks illegal, emphasizing that cigarettes must only be sold in sealed, compliant packs. This directive, announced by Acting Regional Head Abel Ndego in Bolgatanga, aims to ensure consumers are exposed to mandatory health warnings, which cannot be adequately displayed on single sticks.

Mandatory Health Warnings on Packaging

Mr. Ndego explained that the law requires cigarettes to be sold in packs that carry approved health warnings. This measure is crucial because written warnings alone are often insufficient to convey the severe dangers of tobacco use.
