This call was made during the launch of the Gaming Commission’s 20th-anniversary celebration in Accra, where officials emphasized the need for regulated growth alongside revenue generation and responsible gaming practices.

The gaming sector in Ghana has witnessed considerable expansion in recent years, encompassing both traditional betting and a rapidly growing online segment. While this growth presents economic opportunities, it also brings challenges related to regulation, revenue collection, and potential social impacts, particularly concerning youth engagement and problem gambling.

Government Directs Strategic Alignment
Presidential Advisor on the Economy, Seth Terkper, speaking at the Labadi Beach Hotel event, highlighted the dual responsibility of the Commission. He stated that the focus must shift beyond mere industry expansion to actively shaping its trajectory for national benefit. Mr. Terkper stressed that the industry’s growth should translate into measurable economic gains, boost investor confidence, and operate within robust standards.
