Ghana's Medical Council Sounds Alarm Over Rising Negligence and Ethics Decline

Accra, Ghana – The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has raised serious concerns about a significant increase in complaints of medical negligence, malpractice, and professional misconduct filed against healthcare practitioners nationwide. The regulatory body highlighted a substantial backlog of disciplinary cases, signaling a worrying decline in professional ethics, institutional accountability, and patient-centered care within Ghana’s health sector. This alarming trend was revealed by Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Chairman of the MDC, during the opening of the 14th Annual General and Scientific Meeting of the Ghana Association of Radiologists in Accra on Thursday.

Surge in Complaints and Shifting Patient Culture

Professor Akosa expressed deep worry over the sheer volume of cases being submitted to the MDC, stating,
