Government Commences Arrears Payment for 2020 Nurses and Midwives Batch

The Ministry of Health has confirmed the processing of three months’ outstanding arrears for the 2020 cohort of nurses and midwives. This action aims to alleviate financial burdens for thousands of healthcare professionals across the nation, fulfilling a commitment made by the Ministry of Finance.

Payment Schedule Fulfilled Amidst Concerns

In a statement released on May 27, the Ministry of Health provided an update on the payment execution, confirming that arrears originally scheduled for disbursement in May 2026 have now been processed. This development follows several months of expressed concerns and advocacy from various nursing and midwifery groups regarding delayed payments related to their employment and recent postings.

While the majority of payments have been successfully processed, the Ministry acknowledged that a subset of affected healthcare workers reported not receiving the complete expected amount under the three-month arrears arrangement. These instances have been characterized as isolated, and the Ministry assured that immediate steps are underway to rectify the situation.
