The Ministry of Roads and Highways is initiating legal action to recover approximately US$30 million from Indian construction firm JMC. The firm allegedly failed to commence work on a road project after receiving a substantial mobilization payment, prompting the government to seek the return of public funds.
The announcement came from Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, who stated that the ministry will pursue legal proceedings to reclaim the money. This action follows a period where the contractor, JMC, allegedly took payment but did not initiate any significant physical work on the project.
Contractual Dispute and Mobilization Payment
According to Minister Agbodza, JMC assured the Ministry of its robust technical and financial capabilities. The company was awarded the contract after appealing for consideration, despite the project’s significant value, reported to be around US$158.6 million. The project was expected to be completed last year.
