Greater Accra Braces for Floods: Minister Announces Emergency Measures Amidst High Alert

Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo announced sweeping emergency measures on Monday, May 25, as authorities issue a high flood alert for the region. The announcement comes amid recent heavy rains causing casualties and forecasts predicting more intense rainfall in the coming weeks. The measures are designed to prepare the region for potential emergencies during the ongoing rainy season.

Intensified Prevention and Response Efforts

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with NADMO, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), and security agencies, has intensified flood prevention exercises. These include widespread desilting of gutters and drains, removal of refuse from drainage channels, inspection of waterways, and demolition of unauthorized structures that obstruct water flow.
