Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC (GGB PLC) is set to host its Annual Golf Championship on May 30 at the prestigious Achimota Golf Club in Accra. This year’s event, evolving into a fully integrated, multi-portfolio sporting occasion, will gather 120 leading golfers, business executives, and industry influencers for a day of elite competition, premium brand experiences, and sophisticated hospitality.
Building on Past Success
The 2025 iteration of the championship, held under the Johnnie Walker banner, garnered significant recognition. It was awarded Golf Tournament of the Year by TheGolfer Online, a testament to its exceptional organization, robust media engagement, and vibrant atmosphere.
This year, GGB PLC is expanding the scope of the event, unifying Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Heineken, and Malta Guinness under a single corporate platform. This marks the first time the company’s diverse premium portfolio will be showcased together at a competitive golf event.
A Day of Elite Competition and Brand Immersion
The championship will officially commence with a ceremonial tee-off. Leading the event will be GGB PLC Board Chairman Dr. Felix Elvis Addo and Managing Director Frédéric Feraille, joined by the President of the Ghana Golf Association and the Captain of the Achimota Golf Club. This signifies the event’s dual importance as both a sporting milestone and a corporate gathering.
Throughout the course, participants will engage with curated brand experiences. Signature refreshment activations are planned, notably at Hole 9, offering a taste of GGB PLC’s premium offerings.
The day’s festivities will transition to the clubhouse for an elevated food-and-beverage pairing session. This experience is designed to showcase each brand within an optimal culinary context, highlighting their premium qualities.
Culmination and Recognition
The championship will conclude with a formal dinner and awards ceremony, celebrating the day’s achievements on the course. Following the ceremony, an after-party is scheduled to provide a stylish end to the event.
Extensive media coverage across television, radio, print, and digital platforms is anticipated. This broad reach aims to amplify the championship’s presence among Ghana’s business, lifestyle, and sporting communities.
Industry Perspectives
Frédéric Feraille, Managing Director of GGB PLC, emphasized the company’s commitment. “The inaugural championship in 2025 demonstrated what is possible when a world-class brand commits to Ghana’s golfing community,” he stated. “In 2026, we are going further, bringing Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Heineken, and Malta Guinness under one championship to give every guest an authentic encounter with the very best we produce. That is our role in Ghana’s lifestyle and culture: to lead, and to raise the bar.”
Leonard Kweku Okyere, President of the Ghana Golf Association, welcomed the evolution. “We welcome this evolution with great enthusiasm,” Okyere commented. “What Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC has done is recognise the unique power of golf to convene excellence. This expansion deepens their investment in the game by creating a landmark occasion that raises the profile of golf in Ghana, attracts the very best participants, and generates the kind of visibility that benefits the entire golfing ecosystem. This is precisely the kind of partnership that moves our sport forward.”
Looking Ahead
The integration of multiple premium brands into a single golf championship signals a strategic shift in how GGB PLC engages with Ghana’s elite consumer base. This approach not only elevates the golfing experience but also reinforces the company’s position as a leader in lifestyle and culture. The success of this multi-brand activation could set a new precedent for corporate sports sponsorships in Ghana, potentially influencing future event strategies across various industries and encouraging deeper investment in sports development.
