Heath Goldfields Clears GH¢139 Million in Worker Arrears as Bogoso-Prestea Mine Recovery Gains Momentum

Heath Goldfields has disbursed over GH¢139 million to workers at the Bogoso-Prestea mine since assuming operational control in late 2024, addressing significant salary arrears and initiating the stabilization of the long-dormant site. The payments are a cornerstone of the company’s strategy to restore worker dignity and rebuild trust after years of operational uncertainty.

Restoring Worker Confidence Amidst Inherited Challenges

According to Patrick Appiah Mensah, General Manager of Heath Goldfields, the substantial payments are a direct response to the difficult conditions inherited from the previous operator, Future Global Resources (FGR). Upon taking over, Heath Goldfields faced nearly $87 million in liabilities.

These inherited debts included over $25 million owed to employees, approximately $25 million in unpaid electricity bills, and outstanding obligations to state institutions like SSNIT and GRA. Operations at the mine had been completely halted for close to two years prior to Heath Goldfields’ intervention.
