Internal NDC Tensions Threaten Governance Agenda, Warns Analyst

Accra, Ghana – Political tensions within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) could significantly distract the government from its core governance agenda if not managed, warned Dr. John Osae-Kwapong, Director of the Democracy Project at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). The recent public exchange between Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah on Joy FM’s Top Story programme on Monday, May 25, highlighted concerns that internal succession battles and political rivalries risk overshadowing critical national issues.

Internal Friction and Governance Distraction

While these internal tensions may not destabilize President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, they have the potential to divert attention from pressing national matters and slow down the implementation of key government policies.
