Logistical challenges, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas, have led to delays in the distribution of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) materials across Ghana. These disruptions, observed as recently as Monday, May 4, have sparked concerns about the integrity of the examination process, prompting calls for urgent review by the Ministry of Education and examination bodies.
Context of Delays
The delays came to light following reports of late arrival of BECE materials at the Boako M/A Basic School examination centre in the Western North Region. Question papers had not reached the centre by 9:15 a.m. on the examination day, significantly disrupting the scheduled start of the exams.
Such incidents are not isolated, according to Kofi Asare, Executive Secretary of Ghana Education Watch. He explained on JoyNews’ The Pulse that these delays are a recurring issue in areas where transportation and connectivity pose significant hurdles.
