Mahama Outlines Plan to Dismantle Double-Track System by 2027, Prioritizing Technical Vocational Education

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a strategic shift in Ghana’s educational policy, vowing to eliminate the double-track system in senior high schools by the end of 2027. This ambitious goal will be primarily achieved through a significant expansion of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, aiming to better equip students with industry-relevant skills and improve overall academic delivery.

Shifting Educational Priorities

The announcement came during a visit to Sawla Primary School, where the President inspected the implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. President Mahama articulated a clear vision: to prioritize the development of technical and vocational schools over the construction of additional traditional senior high schools.
