The Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has publicly accused state security agencies of abusing their power and demanded urgent investigations into alleged killings and mistreatment of Mamprusi youth. These accusations stem from the ongoing Bawku conflict, with the Nayiri expressing grave concerns over arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, torture, abductions, and alleged extrajudicial killings of Mamprusi individuals in the region.
Escalating Tensions and Failed Mediation
The situation in Bawku has reportedly continued to deteriorate, despite ongoing mediation efforts led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The Nayiri stated that the outcomes of these mediation efforts have failed to restore peace, instead exacerbating tensions within the traditional area.
