The Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) has officially launched the Mfantsipim 150th Anniversary Awards Scheme on May 29, a significant initiative designed to recognize individuals and institutions that have profoundly impacted Ghana’s development. This program is a central part of the celebrations marking 150 years of the historic Mfantsipim School, aiming to celebrate excellence, leadership, and service across diverse sectors of Ghanaian society.
Commemorating a Legacy of Excellence
The awards ceremony, slated for October 31, 2026, will honour outstanding contributions in fields such as academia, governance, entrepreneurship, technology, business, the arts, and public service. This initiative underscores Mfantsipim’s enduring commitment to fostering leaders and contributing to nation-building, values that have shaped generations since its establishment in 1876.
Captain John Yamoah, Chairman of the 150th Anniversary Planning Committee, emphasized the awards’ role in preserving and promoting Mfantsipim’s core values: leadership, discipline, integrity, excellence, service, and commitment to nation-building. He stated that the scheme aims to motivate future generations by showcasing the achievements of those who have exemplified these principles.
Diverse Categories for Recognition
The Mfantsipim 150th Anniversary Awards Scheme features several distinct categories to ensure comprehensive recognition. The Distinguished and Emerging Leaders category will spotlight accomplished alumni and current trailblazers whose achievements have elevated Mfantsipim’s reputation nationally and internationally.
Further recognizing broader impact, the Pan-Industry Awards will celebrate individuals connected to the school who have excelled in various economic sectors and made significant contributions to national development. This highlights the wide-reaching influence of the Mfantsipim community beyond its immediate alumni base.
Dedicated to the institution’s foundation, the Education Awards category will honour both teaching and non-teaching staff. Their dedication and service are recognized for their vital role in Mfantsipim’s educational mission and the advancement of secondary education in Ghana.
Additionally, the MOBA Special Awards will specifically acknowledge old boys who have actively championed the school’s values, vision, and reputation, both within Ghana and on the global stage. These awards aim to celebrate those who act as ambassadors for Mfantsipim’s ideals.
Call for Nominations and Future Outlook
Nominations for all award categories are now open to the public via the official awards portal, Mfantsipim 150 Awards Nomination Portal. Organizers are actively encouraging submissions for individuals and institutions whose work consistently demonstrates excellence, integrity, and dedicated service to society.
The launch of these awards signifies more than just a celebration of an anniversary; it represents a renewed commitment by Mfantsipim and its alumni to identify, celebrate, and inspire the next wave of Ghanaian leaders and innovators. The success of this initiative could set a precedent for how educational institutions engage with and contribute to national development discourse through recognition and mentorship.
As nominations pour in, the focus will shift towards the selection process and the eventual awards ceremony. The public and the educational sector will be watching to see which individuals and institutions are recognized, and how these accolades might further inspire broader engagement with Mfantsipim’s legacy of service and leadership.
