Minority Caucus Develops Strategy to Counter Government Narratives, Prepares for 2028 Elections

Accra, Ghana – The opposition National Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus has established a strategic communication channel to proactively inform the public about national issues and counter what they term as misleading narratives from the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government. This initiative was revealed by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh during an NPP Minority workshop held at the Accra City Hotel on Monday.

Countering Government Messaging

Annoh-Dompreh stated that the caucus has created an “official channel” designed to preemptively address public discourse and expose perceived governance failures. The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP elaborated that this strategy involves anticipating emerging national issues and disseminating accurate information to the public before the government and its party officials can shape the narrative in a way that misleads Ghanaians.

“Through this, we have been able to create an official channel from the Caucus to the public for setting stories straight,” Annoh-Dompreh explained. “We have even developed the practice to the point where we anticipate the issues and signal the public before the Members of the Majority and their party officials try to mislead Ghanaians.”

Preparing for Future Elections

Despite the NPP’s defeat in the previous general elections, Annoh-Dompreh asserted that the Minority Caucus has emerged from that period “stronger, more agile, well informed.” He indicated that the caucus is already actively preparing for the 2028 general elections, aiming to leverage their current position to build momentum. He proudly referred to the caucus as the “Mighty Minority,” highlighting their achievements despite their numerical disadvantage in Parliament.

For the past 16 months, the opposition has focused on holding the government accountable and scrutinizing what they describe as broken promises by the Mahama administration. “Before the topple of the first promise, we took to work,” Annoh-Dompreh commented.

Economic Criticisms and Public Hardship

The Minority Caucus accused the NDC government of attempting to divert public attention from pressing national challenges. Specific concerns raised include the ongoing debate surrounding the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 financial statement. Annoh-Dompreh claimed that the government’s “desperation to mislead Ghanaians at all costs” has become evident.

Further evidence cited by the caucus includes the resurgence of power outages, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” and a recent reduction in cocoa producer prices. These issues, according to Annoh-Dompreh, demonstrate the government’s struggles in effectively managing the nation’s economy. The reduction in cocoa producer prices was particularly singled out as a potential major deception by the government.

The caucus argued that the deteriorating conditions faced by key segments of the population, including cocoa farmers, teachers, nurses, market women, and public servants, reflect a growing hardship under the current administration. “We cannot sit back while the cocoa farmer is wailing, the teachers and nurses are wailing, public servants are wailing, and market women are wailing,” he declared. “This is the reflection of the scam of the NDC government.”

Unpopularity and Call for Unity

Annoh-Dompreh also suggested that the NDC government’s popularity has waned faster than anticipated. “I dare say that the NDC government has become unpopular even faster than we anticipated, and it did not take long for their shallowness to be exposed at every level,” he stated. He urged all Minority Members of Parliament to maintain unity and intensify their efforts in scrutinizing the government’s actions as Parliament prepares to resume its sessions.

Looking Ahead

The NPP Minority Caucus’s proactive communication strategy signals a shift towards a more assertive opposition role. As Parliament reconvenes, attention will be on how effectively this caucus can leverage its “official channel” to influence public perception and hold the government accountable. The caucus’s preparations for the 2028 elections suggest a long-term vision focused on regaining political power, with their current efforts likely to shape their electoral campaign narrative.
