MTN Ghana Convenes Stakeholders to Boost Artist Livelihoods in Digital Music Era

Accra, Ghana – MTN Ghana recently hosted a Digital Music Conference at its headquarters, bringing together over 100 music industry stakeholders, including artists, executives, and rights administrators. The forum aimed to address how Ghana’s expanding digital music sector can be better structured to convert creative output and cultural impact into sustainable income for artists.

The conference underscored MTN Ghana’s proactive role in convening the ecosystem and leveraging its digital infrastructure to bridge gaps in music monetization, rights management, and value distribution.

Rethinking Success Beyond Streaming Numbers

Bless Sefenu Agordjo, Senior Manager for Digital Services and Verticals at MTN Ghana, emphasized the need to move beyond mere visibility as the primary measure of success in the digital age. While streaming has increased exposure for Ghanaian artists, achieving significant income solely from streams often requires consumption volumes beyond the reach of many emerging and mid-tier musicians.

Agordjo highlighted the critical need for complementary monetization pathways that are accessible, predictable, and sustainable. He pointed to Caller Ring Back Tones (CRBT) as a key example within MTN’s digital music ecosystem.
