MTN Group, a leading telecommunications provider in Africa, has announced a significant reshuffling of its executive leadership across the continent. This strategic move aims to harness experienced internal talent to propel its multi-billion-dollar digital and financial services expansion under the Ambition 2030 strategy. The changes are set to take full operational effect by September 1, 2026.
Key Leadership Transitions
The cornerstone of this restructuring is the promotion of Mitwa Ng’ambi, previously CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire, to the pivotal role of MTN Group Chief People and Culture Officer. She will join the Group Executive Committee, succeeding Paul Norman, who is retiring after nearly three decades of dedicated service.
Ng’ambi’s elevation has triggered a cascade of other critical appointments within MTN’s key West and East African operations. Abbad Reda, formerly CEO of MTN Zambia, will step into Ng’ambi’s previous role as CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire.
Larry Annetts, a corporate veteran with extensive experience, including a recent secondment to Irancell as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, has been appointed as the new CEO of MTN Zambia, replacing Reda.
Internal Talent Pipeline Strength
MTN Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, expressed strong confidence in the newly appointed leaders. He highlighted that these appointments underscore the robustness of MTN’s internal talent pipeline and succession planning capabilities.
