Muslim Coalition Decries Weakened Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill, Citing Loopholes for Financiers

Accra, Ghana – June 4, 2026 – The Coalition of Muslim Organisations, Ghana (COMOG) has voiced significant alarm over the recently passed anti-LGBTQI+ legislation, stating that the final version of the bill inexplicably shields wealthy financiers, sponsors, and advocacy groups from prosecution. The Islamic umbrella body, in a press statement released today, expressed deep concern that critical accountability clauses intended to target powerful entities funding LGBTQI+ activities were deleted before the bill’s final passage.

A Defanged Legal Framework

COMOG, a member of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, revealed that the removal of provisions designed to legally pursue, arrest, and prosecute those who fund, promote, sponsor, or facilitate LGBTQI+-related activities renders the law functionally ineffective.

The coalition warned that without the legal teeth to penalize institutional promoters and their financial backers, the current legislation is incapable of adequately protecting the nation’s moral fabric.

This development follows reports that the latest version of the bill was allegedly rushed through Parliament without the extensive, transparent stakeholder consultations that characterized the development of the original, more robust draft.
