NIA Management Appeals for Calm, Citing Imminent Breakthrough in Staff Conditions Amidst Strike Threat

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has urgently appealed to its staff to withdraw a looming strike notice, promising a resolution to their long-delayed conditions of service within two weeks. The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) had formally declared an indefinite industrial action set to commence on Monday, May 13, 2026, citing the prolonged administrative limbo surrounding improved salary structures, despite the Scheme of Service receiving approval in July 2024.

Bureaucratic Hurdles Delay Implementation

Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, NIA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, revealed the bureaucratic complexities that have stalled the process. He confirmed that the necessary documentation has been transferred from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to the Ministry of Finance. This migration exercise, which began in December 2024, faced extensive departmental reviews before reaching the highest governmental levels.
