NPA and GCAA Set for UGCFL Season 2 Third-Place Showdown

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) will contest the third-place playoff in the University of Ghana Corporate Football League (UGCFL) Season 2 after both teams were defeated in their respective semi-final matches. The matches, held recently, determined the finalists and set up the battle for bronze.

The UGCFL, now in its second season, brings together corporate entities for a friendly yet competitive football league aimed at fostering camaraderie and promoting healthy lifestyles among professionals. This season’s semi-finals marked a significant stage in the tournament, narrowing the field to the ultimate contenders for the championship and the third-place prize.

In the first semi-final, Wilmar Africa faced off against the GCAA. Wilmar Africa demonstrated strong offensive pressure throughout the first half, creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, the GCAA’s defense proved formidable, preventing any goals before halftime. The deadlock was finally broken in the 47th minute when Richard Brianoo scored for Wilmar Africa. Four minutes later, Roland Tetteh extended Wilmar’s lead, securing a 2-0 victory for his team and advancing them to the grand final.

The second semi-final pitted the NPA against the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club (GAFOSC). The NPA had the better of the first-half chances, but an inability to convert these opportunities left the scoreline unchanged at the interval. GAFOSC capitalized early in the second half, with L/CPL Gabriel A. Teye finding the back of the net in what would become the decisive goal. Despite sustained pressure from the NPA in their pursuit of an equalizer, GAFOSC’s organized defense held firm, clinching a narrow 1-0 win.

With these results, the focus shifts to the upcoming third-place playoff between the NPA and GCAA. Both teams will be aiming to secure a podium finish and conclude their UGCFL Season 2 campaign on a winning note, adding a bronze medal to their season’s achievements.

Meanwhile, the grand final of the UGCFL Season 2 will see Wilmar Africa and GAFOSC compete for the championship title. The final is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, promising an exciting conclusion to the league.

The outcomes of the semi-finals highlight the competitive nature of the UGCFL, where strong defensive performances can often be as crucial as offensive prowess. For the NPA and GCAA, the third-place playoff presents an opportunity to analyze their performance, identify areas for improvement, and end the season with a positive result, potentially setting a stronger foundation for future seasons or other corporate sporting events.

The upcoming playoff matches, particularly the grand final, will be closely watched by participants and enthusiasts alike, underscoring the growing interest and engagement in organized corporate sports leagues across Ghana. The league continues to serve as a vital platform for inter-organizational networking and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle within the corporate sector.

Looking ahead, the performance of Wilmar Africa and GAFOSC in the final will set a benchmark for other participating teams in future UGCFL seasons. The journey of the NPA and GCAA to the third-place playoff also offers valuable lessons in resilience and the importance of capitalizing on key moments in high-stakes matches. Observers will be keen to see how these dynamics influence team strategies and player development in the evolving landscape of corporate football.
