NPP National Chair Hopeful Afoko Boosts Northern Regional Office Project with Significant Donation

Awentami Paul Afoko, a contender for the National Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has donated 400 bags of cement and GH¢30,000 towards the construction of a new NPP Northern Regional office in Tamale. The contribution, made on Tuesday, aims to bolster party infrastructure and operations in the region, a key battleground for the upcoming 2028 general elections.

Boosting Party Infrastructure in the North

The donation by Afoko, a former NPP National Chairman, directly addresses an appeal made by regional NPP executives. They highlighted the critical need for a modern party office to strengthen grassroots structures and enhance campaign efforts in the Northern Region.

Regional executives emphasized that a well-equipped office is vital for the party’s strategy to regain political dominance in the area, which is currently held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The planned facility is envisioned as a multipurpose hub designed to support various party activities and improve coordination across the region.

Afoko’s ‘3R’ Blueprint and Call for Unity

Presenting the donation on behalf of Afoko, Dr. Akisibadek Alekz Afoko, articulated the candidate’s vision. He urged NPP supporters to rally behind Paul Afoko’s bid for National Chairman, presenting his leadership as instrumental to the party’s goal of “reclaiming power from the NDC in 2028.”

Afoko’s campaign is centered on a “3R” blueprint, which stands for Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture. This strategy underscores his commitment to internal party cohesion and strategic revitalization.

Afoko previously served as the NPP National Chairman from 2014 to 2015, bringing prior experience to his current aspirations.

Regional Executives Welcome Timely Support

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Sualihu Mahama, the Northern Regional Second Vice Chairman, received the donation on behalf of the Regional Chairman, Mohammed Adam Baantima Samba. He described Afoko’s contribution as “timely support” for the ongoing office construction project.

Mahama expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting its significance in advancing the project towards completion. He also encouraged Afoko to maintain his support for the party’s overarching mission to secure victory in the 2028 elections.

Implications for the NPP and the 2028 Elections

The investment in regional party infrastructure signals a proactive approach by NPP leadership hopefuls to strengthen the party’s operational capacity ahead of the crucial 2028 general elections. Such facilities are essential for effective party organization, communication, and mobilization, particularly in regions perceived as swing territories.

Afoko’s substantial donation, coupled with his campaign message of unity and rebuilding, aims to position him as a leader capable of uniting the party and strategizing for electoral success. The focus on the Northern Region highlights its strategic importance in the national political landscape.

As the NPP navigates its internal leadership contests and prepares for future elections, the development of its regional structures will be a key indicator of its readiness and organizational strength. The success of projects like the Northern Regional office could set a precedent for infrastructure development in other regions, influencing the party’s overall electoral performance.
