National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, assured residents of the Savannah Region that its development remains a primary focus for the government. He made this commitment during an engagement with local leaders and party supporters in the Salaga South Constituency on May 14, as part of his nationwide “Thank You Tour.”.
Context of the “Thank You Tour”
The visit to the Savannah Region is part of a broader national outreach by the NDC leadership. This tour aims to express gratitude to traditional authorities, party faithful, and communities for their support during the 2024 general elections. It also serves as a platform to reconnect with grassroots supporters and discuss pressing development concerns.
Government’s Commitment to the Savannah Region
Addressing a gathering at the Banbange Ndefoso Palace in Kpembe, Mr. Asiedu Nketia emphasized the government’s dedication to improving infrastructure and fostering development within the Savannah Region. He stated that the Mahama administration is focused on consolidating its electoral mandate while ensuring equitable distribution of national development initiatives across all regions.
“What is important now is for us to secure our position in government. When that is achieved, all of you will be given what you deserve,” Mr. Nketia declared.
Addressing Dissatisfaction and Call for Unity
The NDC Chairman acknowledged that some party supporters might be feeling dissatisfied regarding the pace of political appointments. He urged patience, assuring them that more opportunities would arise in due course.
“I have heard statements to the effect that some of you are not happy with the government because you have not benefitted from any appointment. All I ask is patience,” he appealed.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia also stressed the importance of unity among party members. He encouraged continued support for government programmes and policies designed to enhance the livelihoods of citizens nationwide.
Regional Tour Itinerary and Objectives
The Savannah Regional engagements, which began on Thursday, May 14, are scheduled to include visits to Salaga, Kpalbe, Buipe, and Daboya. During these stops, Mr. Nketia plans to hold town hall meetings and pay courtesy calls on prominent traditional leaders, including the Kpembewura, Buipewura, and Wasipewura.
The tour continues on Friday, May 15, with engagements in Damongo, Sawla, and Bole. A significant part of this leg includes a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura, the esteemed overlord of the Gonja Kingdom.
Following the Savannah Region, the tour extends to the Northern Region starting May 17. Here, Mr. Nketia is expected to visit the Yaa-Naa in Yendi and conduct engagements in various constituencies, including Tatale, Zabzugu, Kpandai, Wulensi, Bimbilla, Mion, Saboba, Chereponi, Gushegu, Karaga, Tolon, Kumbungu, and Savelugu, over a four-day period.

Party officials indicate that the overarching goal of this extensive tour is to fortify grassroots mobilization efforts.
